Let's Talk Lavender!

Lavender

Lavender in the Winter and early Spring...NOT SO PRETTY RIGHT! BUT....there is nothing like the fragrance in the Summer or the buzzing of pollinators that are drawn to it. These are 6 plants that I grew from seed and have in a raised bed. Lavender from seed is not the easiest to grow so you may want to start with plants. The soil is rich with organic compost that was laid down in the Fall to break down over Winter. Water often while plants are not yet established. Once they are strong enough, I water a few times a week, more often if it is hot and dry.

 Pruning

Around February or March it's time to prune these back! I am liberal with my pruning much more than when I started gardening. I cut off anything dead and shape up the Lavender to be more rounded and not so leggy. A good pruning will result in more flowering. I also prune again in the Summer when the flowers start to dry so they flower again.

Uses

Lavender has been used for a multitude of benefits such as: insomnia, anxiety, dry skin, acne, depression, headaches and so forth. Uses or forms of lavender are dried flowers, essential oils, teas, lotions, beauty products, soaps and candles. I DON'T USE IT FOR ANY OF THIS STUFF! I just enjoy the smell, the movement from bees, and an occasional flower cutting.

I CAN ALWAYS GIVE SOME AWAY IF YOU ARE MAKING SOMETHING AWESOME AND WILL SHARE WITH ME!
My face could use some lavender wrinkle reducing cream 😉
